2006 Pinot Gris - Ursula

2006 Pinot Gris - Ursula

From an unknown fringe wine of a few years ago, Pinot Gris has developed into one of the most sort after wines, and for good reason. Bone dry in style and with a total of 8 months ageing on full yeast lees, these are food wines.

This continues our trend towards powerfully fruit driven flavours, with the fruit sweetness belying the dryness of the wine. The nose is intense and lifted, a combination of lychees and baked apple. Honeyed citrus notes meld with toasted almonds, a smell, which is often mistaken for oak in a wine which sees only stainless steel. The palate is bold and round, opening in the glass to reveal loads of tangy fruit. The soft flavours of nashi pear are there along with its firm and surreal texture, as the gentle grip of the phenolics take charge of the tongue. A density and viscosity lead through to a long finish while the crisp acidity adds purity and persistence.

This wine should provide excellent drinking between 1 and 5 years out from vintage.
